Tinnitus
is a common condition in which a person hears a ringing, chirping or whistling
sound all the time even when there is no external noise. It can be either
continuous or intermittent and proves to be a great annoyance, making a
significant impact in the quality of lives of the sufferers. Nearly 30 percent
of the Australian population suffers from tinnitus with 15 percent suffering
constant annoyance while 1 percent reporting severe symptoms that makes their
lives less enjoyable and blissful.
Tinnitus
being a symptom of the hearing loss or problem cannot be cured completely by a
specific medication. The best way is to manage tinnitus and reduce the
inconvenience caused due to it such that it does not affect your smooth
execution of day-to-day activities. Depending on the cause of tinnitus, hearing
experts may prescribe such persons to use good quality hearing aids for tinnitus that
will distract them from the tinnitus and amplify sounds from the outside world.
Besides
the hearing aids, doctors may also suggest other solutions like cognitive
behaviour therapy, using therapeutic noise generator and resolving the cause of
tinnitus at the first place.
